Hispanic Chamber of Metro Denver Statement on the end of DACA

Denver, CO – September 5, 2017- Hispanic Chamber President/CEO Mike Ferrufino released a statement following the decision to end DACA:

"The Trump Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program represents a betrayal of the nearly 800,000 hard-working and law-abiding young people who grew up in America and who contribute meaningfully to our community and economy. Here in Colorado, DACA protects the rights of over 17,000 young people. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Denver condemns in the strongest possible terms this decision to put politics ahead of the best interests of our country.

We urge the members of the U.S. Congress, and particularly those in the Colorado delegation, to act quickly to codify laws that provide an opportunity for the well-being, security and prosperity of those who qualify for the DACA program.  We stand ready to work with Republican and Democratic lawmakers alike to enact a permanent and sensible resolution to this issue and to enable these young people to contribute to the economic growth of our country."
